[ imma be real chief having a conscience sometimes SUCKS.
he's not especially fond of making people cry and run off, no, not really. it weighs down on his mind — not pity. rarely pity. it's a vague understanding laced with concern. he gives it a day or so, unafraid of the consequences. if she wants to stab him, she's welcome to.
her appearance is distinct enough to note from a distance, fortunately; they're in the hallway right outside of the bathing grounds, which has been mostly abandoned due to how late it is.
he twitches at the sight of the moon. this nightfall thing is never not going to be the nonsensical thing he's experienced in his lifetime.
moving on, nier folds his arms, doing little more than holding her gaze near the end of the hall. ]
...Hey.
[ ok. this is fine. no one has out drawn their weapon yet. ]
[ Zero is for once, freshly bathed– and curled up in a corner on the other end of the hallway. She'd meant to get farther, but every part of her aches with fever; she'd sit down, just for a few minuets, and then get up.
That had been the plan.
She doesn't answer right away, not with anything decipherable, at least. She groans, and after a few minutes finds real words and the energy to glare at him. ]
Really? I had no fucking idea. Thanks for enlightening me.
[ She ducks her head under her arm, blocking out the little light that filters through along with the sight of his stupid face. ]
it's endearingly childish, he'll admit that much. he cants his head, leaning in a bit before approaching her with no next to no restraint. before you know it, he's crouched 2 feet or so away from her. ]
[what's with these guys and bodies of water, we don't know. but this time Merlin's actually right by the shore, standing thigh deep in water, one of the mermaids before him. it's hard to make out what he's saying, but the expression on his face is...well, he does look like a man who's trying to draw closer, while the mermaid remains flatly unimpressed. until she cocks her head and holds out her hand, which he takes to press a kiss to.
what he doesn't see are the mermaids behind him, who at that moment grab him to throw him further into the lake. before he surfaces, a soaked mess, they dart off, laughing - and he turns around to trudge out of the lake, looking incredibly disappointed.
seeing a flash of movement, he looks up, and then raises a hand to greet Zero. hi.]
[ She sees most of it from a distance, enough to at least make sense of how and why he comes out of the lake a sopping mess. She doesn't return his wave but she does draw closer to the water's edge, looking faintly amused. ]
What, you got rejected?
[ Her gaze drifts towards the water, it ripples off in the distance– no doubt because of a few over excited fish trollops. ]
Didn't know you were into fish– I mean, I know there's not a lot to choose from on land, but I didn't think the pickings were that bad.
The majority of my options were ill - I'm not into sneezing and hacking one's lungs out before you even get into it. In comparison, a mermaid is a delight.
[or should have been. he looks at his sodden clothing and sighs deeply. Zero's got the measure of it pretty well.]
[two days after the lake incident, Zero will find her cape neatly folded by her door, clean and dry, as though it had never been used to help a certain wizard's hair at all. and resting on top is a single pink flower - very different from the one in her eye, in looks and in the sweet scent.
[ you can clearly see that he's outside, the sun shining behind him. the footage then pans in on a few rows of greenery.
of course, it's not until he walks closer than you can see what he's actually talking about. flowers! pink lilies, white carnations and blue hydrangeas more specifically. ]
[After their very successful gambling ring, they'd kicked some mermaid out of her house to celebrate. Kicked out is such a mean way of putting it, though. Sure, they threatened her a bit, but Aphra did toss like a lot of shells her way too? Really, they were renting it. Airbnbing it, or water rather than air in this case.
It was nice. It'd been a while, since Tolvan. And while Aphra did miss the imperial agent, it wasn't like their relationship was anything serious or like it ever could be with her. She was useful, and she wasn't useful when she wasn't here. Zero was here, though.
The night,
was just a very bad dream.
The prison she'd been sent to hurtling towards some planet the Empire wanted to punish. Tolvan finding her. Sana finding her. Some fungus that thought it was a Jedi and also pretended to be her mom. That guy who wanted her dead because she got his partner killed on that last mission. And Vader.
His presence could be felt even if you had no clue what the Force was. It lurked and filled a room, a planet even. And he was coming for her, for them.
The next part goes quickly, fuzzily just like the end of a dream. She asks Tolvan to erase her memory. Tolvan asks her to do the same. Then...
Aphra stirs, not sure where she is. It's comfy here. A nice bed, not a prison cell. Her eyes open and she sees a flash of white hair. She smiles and cuddles in closer, sleepily wrapping her arms around the other.]
[ For the most part? She's a try anything once sort of gal, and give anyone a chance if they seem like they'd be a good enough fuck and cool with being ghosted on once the self-loathing kicks in.
But there are some things she just won't do.
Cuddling is definitely one of them.
Zero frowns, raising her head just enough so she can look over her shoulder. ]
You wanna' try that again?
[ Her voice is still hoarse with sleep. She shrugs off the arm wrapped around her. ]
You're talking to the wrong gal if that's what you're looking for, snookums.
[ he is laying on the ground, back flat against the sand — his ankle is anchored to the ground with the aid of his cloth belt and one (1) particularly large piece of coral.
nier stares at the expanse of blue before them blankly.
[ From somewhere off-screen, A2 will hear some shuffling, mumbling and cursing before Zero finally appears too close to the screen and fuzzy thanks to how dark it is in her room. ]
[ frisk finds themselves wandering back into the temple, making their way through the hallways easily. they're covered in twigs, because they almost always are after a day running around in the woods. they don't do anything particularly interesting otherwise, probably.
this time, they've got something following them, and for some reason, they imagine zero will know more about it than nier. part of this is because it is a little angrier than anything else in the forest.
as such, they knock on zero's room door.
when she opens it, frisk is there, with mud on their shirt, twigs in their hair, and
and
a wyvern is flitting around their head, occasionally snapping at their ears?
they don't say anything, only opting to simply raise their hand in greeting. ]
[ death is as permanent as he expects. his memory? not so much. those last few weeks spent on the horologium had blurred and mixed together, becoming one inextricable mass of impressions and gestures and emotion.
action AGAIN I GUESS!!
